Sparkling Strawberry Basil Bliss
A delightful and refreshing sangria with macerated strawberries, basil-infused simple syrup, lemon juice, Cava (sparkling wine), and vodka, garnished with fresh basil and sliced strawberries.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup loosely packed basil leaves
- 6 ounces fresh strawberries, stemmed and quartered
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- Juice and zest from 1 lemon
- 1 1/2 ounces basil simple syrup
- 6 ounces Cava or sparkling wine, chilled
- 2 ounces vodka
- Garnish: sliced strawberries and basil
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, dissolve 1/2 cup sugar in 1/2 cup water to make the basil simple syrup.
- Add basil to the syrup, steep for 30 minutes, then strain and chill the syrup.
- In a medium bowl, macerate strawberries with 1/4 cup sugar and lemon zest for about 10 minutes.
- Transfer macerated strawberries to a pitcher and add lemon juice, basil simple syrup, Cava, and vodka.
- Adjust sweetness with additional simple syrup and add ice to fill the pitcher.
- Serve in glasses, spooning strawberries into the bottom of each glass and topping with sangria. Garnish with sliced strawberries and basil.
