Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tbsp butter
  • 1 star anise
  • 1/4 tsp powdered ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 tsp brown sugar substitute
  • 1/2 tsp sugar-free maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp rum or bourbon

Instructions

  1. In a deep pot, melt the butter over medium heat with the star anise.
  2. Stir in the ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla, maple syrup, and brown sugar substitute until thoroughly mixed.
  3. Bring the mixture to a simmer and pour in the water (it will bubble slightly).
  4. Simmer for 10 minutes, then add the bourbon and heat for an additional 2 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and serve.
