Festive Frothed Eggnog

Ingredients

  • 1 egg, separated
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp Bourbon
  • 1 1/2 tbsp dark rum
  • 1 tbsp brandy
  • Pinch of mixed spice
  • To serve: finely grated nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick.
  2. Add the milk and 1/2 cup of the cream, then whisk to combine.
  3. Stir in the Bourbon, rum, brandy, and mixed spice.
  4. Refrigerate the mixture for 5 hours to overnight to allow the flavors to develop.
  5. In an electric mixer, whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gently fold the egg whites into the milk mixture.
  7. In the same mixer, whisk the remaining cream until soft peaks form.
  8. Gently fold the whipped cream into the egg white and milk mixture.
  9. Serve the eggnog in glasses and sprinkle with freshly grated nutmeg.
